2012 Green Mark General Product and Type II Environmental-Protection Product Application Review Proj

Absrtact
Taiwan’s Green Mark Program has been implemented since August 25, 1992, following the official promulgation of the program by the Executive Yuan. In response to the wide spread need for green products due to the practice of public green procurement , and the rapidly increasing number of green products, the Taiwan Environmental Protection Administration (TEPA) added the Type II Environmental Protection Product category in the Green Mark Program in 1999, to provide a pathway towards green product certification for those products not included in the Green Mark product categories. This year, a total of 120 application reviews were completed for Green Mark general product applications, with 91 approvals and 23 rejections. The other six applications were revised (provide supplementary documentation or revise product) and approved following on-site audits. In addition, 14 Type II product applications were completed, with 9 approvals and 5 rejections. The statistics on processing and reviewing of Green Mark general product applications show that the average time to process the product applications (from submission of application to award of certification or rejection of application) is 52 days, while the average time for applicants to submit supplementary documentation is 36 days, and it took the Environment and Development Foundation an average of 16 days to actually process the applications (including initial document review, review of supplementary documentation, and schedule and conduct on-site audit). For Type II product applications, the average times to process the product applications, for applicants to submit supplementary documentation, and for the Environment and Development Foundation to actually process the applications are 95 days, 63 days and 32 days respectively.
